Dr Marvin J.Firth was thrilled to be asked to be an attending veterinary surgeon in one of the world’s toughest endurance races. Running the eastern cape of South Africa, competitors from throughout the world endured difficult terrain, 32 water crossings and variable weather. It was a fantastic experience for Dr Firth to treat such athletic animals which were a deviation from the showjumping, dressage and event horses that County Equine usually examines.

A particular highlight was working with Alex Embiricos from the UK as Team Timekeeper and Travis the helicopter pilot who flew the team along the costs for the race! A once in a lifetime opportunity observing whales and dolphins from the air as well as the horses and riders.

All horses returned well at the end of the race, however a few riders didn’t come away unscathed! The icing on the cake was a first and second placing for English riders, Rosie Riall and Anna Boden! Well done!!
